Ngiam Teo
Musician | Conductor | Arranger & Composer | Indie Game Designer | Production Assistant
Ngiam is a Taiwanese-born composer, musician, and conductor specialising in game music, film scoring, contemporary composition, and performance. Since releasing his first album in 2017, he has collaborated with independent game developers and filmmakers across multiple projects.
Originally self-taught, his early musical experience includes choir assemblies, violin and harmonica lessons, and a brief study of festive drums before turning to the piano in 2016, laying the foundation for a multidisciplinary approach grounded in independent study and artistic curiosity.
He composed the original score for the 2026 remake of the short film Mother's Recipe (2023), working directly with award-winning director Izumo Kawabe. Ngiam’s portfolio also includes original soundtracks for independent games, one of which placed first at a 2023 game jam. Through regular participation in game jams, he works under demanding time constraints, developing a flexible and responsive workflow.
Beyond music, Ngiam extends his creative practice into game design, filmmaking, and visual art, contributing to the direction and production of select projects. His works are often narrative-driven and occasionally incorporate elements of minimalism and surreal abstraction, exploring atmosphere, symbolism, and emotional resonances.
Through his craft, Ngiam hopes to create pieces that carry emotional depth and leave lasting memories.
Outside of his artistic pursuits, he studies etymology and tends to flowers that inspire him.
Ngiam’s Comment
“Growing up, music always felt like a bridge between worlds. I was moved by how soundtracks could give life to stories, how a single melody could hold memory, emotion, and atmosphere all at once. That feeling is what inspires me, and it’s what keeps me creating today.
Storytelling is at the heart of my work. Even when I’m just writing music, I think of it as part of a greater whole: a scene, a memory, or even a fragment of a story. Creative projects such as games and WORLDS (working title) let me explore that side more directly, bringing music together with narratives and imagination.
What I hope, above all, is that my music and stories stay with people. That they spark a memory, stir an emotion, or even make someone feel as though they’ve stepped into another world, if only for a moment. I want my works to leave a strong and lasting impression that people remember and return to.
I hope to continue creating meaningful and memorable works that touch hearts and leave behind something unforgettable.”
